🌟 Elizabeth Blackburn
Elizabeth Blackburn was born in Hobart in 1948 and spent her first four years at nearby Snug. Her Nobel autobiography recalls an early curiosity about animals, including ants in the garden and jellyfish on the beach. She later shared the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for research into chromosome ends and the enzyme telomerase. Her scientific training and research took her far from Tasmania, but her own account places the beginnings of a lifelong interest in biology within the greater Hobart district.
